The GIF Pronunciation Page →
Just in case you were unsure about how the creators of the GIF graphics file format intended for you to say it… it’s “jif”.
“The GIF (Graphics Interchange Format), pronounced ‘JIF’, was designed by CompuServe and the official specification released in June of 1987.”
I’ve always said “gif”, as in “gift”.

Sass 3 Beta Released →
David Kaneda:
If you’re a web developer and haven’t given Sass a try yet, get into it ASAP. It a Ruby gem that abstracts CSS — it empowers the CSS with functions and variables, saves a ton of development time, and even makes it easier to be more consistent with your designs. Here’s a sample of a theme I’m working on which shows off some of the functionality.
Version 3 brings a new syntax to...

Why Stylesheet Abstraction Matters →
“I’ve seen a number of comments on blogs and twitter that amount to ‘You don’t need a new stylesheet syntax, CSS is simple and you’re a moron if you can’t do it.’ I agree, CSS is simple. You assign style primitives to elements and some of those primitives cascade down to the elements contained within. I get it. It’s simple to understand. But CSS is not simple to use or maintain. It’s time for...

“I’m excited to finally be able to use Twitter to be productive. The iPad will let me realize my full potential as a Pro Twitter user with over 300 very attractive followers.” said the longtime Pro Twitter user from his Palo Alto, California home.
The 9.7 inch screen using IPS technology was particularly enticing to the 26 year-old web worker, who says in his free time he...

CSS is Aspect-Oriented Programming →
A group of CSS rules is essentially a function. (They even use the same curly-brace and semicolon syntax.) …
form h1 {
font-size: 15px;
color: blue;
}
Suddenly, all h1 tags inside forms have this behavior, even though none of them reference this “function”.
Aspect-oriented programming is the most misunderstood programming paradigm. But fundamentally, the reason it exists is the same...

4th Generation iPhone
Based on words I read off of John Gruber’s website, Daring Fireball, I put together a list of features that will likely be in the new iPhone (4th Generation) released this summer:
Uses A4-family CPU system-on-a-chip, like iPad
960 × 640 resolution, exactly doubling the current size
Second front-facing camera
Support for 3rd party multitasking
John is particularly careful about the kind...

Five Reasons I Want 5ives to Come Back
Scott Jackson:
It was really really funny.
It introduced me to one of my favourite songs ever. (From memory, the category was “Five Songs I’d Like To See A Couple Have As The First Dance At Their Wedding” or something.)
I can’t make my own funny lists of five things.
See what I mean? That last one was barely even a reason!
And that one definitely wasn’t a reason! And don’t even get me...

Sprint Overdrive →
davidkaneda:
Sprint Overdrive is an extremely interesting prospect. By serving up Sprint’s 4G connection over WiFi, it can open a speedy data connection to your iPhone, iPod Touch, and WiFi-only iPad all from the same account, with speeds that Verizon claims are up to 10× that of AT&T’s 3G. Keep in mind: AT&T charges for unlimited data with the iPhone, separately for 3G data on the iPad,...
